Karen E. Marcos earned a Bachelors and a Master’s Degree from USF in Fine Arts and Art Education. She taught high school art for 30 years in Hillsborough County Public Schools, from 1978-2008, the last 23 at Bloomingdale High School where she was the Department Head for the General Department. Karen taught all levels, grades 9-12 including drawing, painting, 2DI, II, III Honors, AP Studio Portfolio, Ceramics, and 3D/I.
Karen is a practicing artist specializing in painting using oils, acrylic, watercolor, as well as drawing using all media including pastels. She has exhibited in local shows including Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, Center Place, Winthrop Arts Festival, BLFA, HAEA, Carolwood Cultural Center, Olde Hyde Park Center, Florida Center for the Contemporary Arts, and USF.
Ms. Marcos currently works part-time with Hillsborough County Public Schools as a special exhibits coordinator for the Florida State Fair, and the Greater Hillsborough County Fair. She also teaches private lessons, and creates and sells commissions.
In addition to painting, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pets, as well as practicing yoga, working out, cooking, reading and traveling. She dedicates every work of art in loving memory to her beloved and late Mother, Ruth Marcos, her inspiration… lifelong educator and student of the world and beyond.
